Through the years there have been many characters in Carnival
history, including mountain goats, life-size Raggedy Anns
and Andys, clumsy clowns and male Vikings. Below meet three
groups you'll most likely run into during this year's
celebrations. |

YETIS
Pranksters and thieves of Winter Carnival's most
precious relics, the Yetis are a playful group who enjoy a good
practical joke. Pictured to the left with local musician John
Dunnigan after they stole the king's crown, you'll find Yetis
lurking at various Carnival events looking for innocent
townspeople (particularly children) to 'play' with.
They live in the deep wilderness behind the Big Mountain, and
return each Winter Carnival to challenge King Ullr as well as
kidnap his Queen of the Snows, if possible. |

PENGUINS
One of the
oldest costume groups, the Penguins are a good-natured group who
can be found waddling around town and at various Carnival
events. They love to have their photo taken and truly enjoy
meeting the children of Whitefish. You can certainly try to have
a conversation with them, but you'll understand their banter
only if you speak Penguin |

VIKING DIVAS
Jovial women sworn to protect, the Viking Divas
spend their time kissing the townspeople and leaving their
famous 'V', the mark of safety against the Yetis. Young children
are especially encouraged to receive the kiss and V if they want
the Yetis to leave them alone. You'll find the Viking Divas at
most all Carnival events, especially if there are Yetis present. |
